The Anaheim Ducks claimed Lassi Thomson, an interesting young defenseman released by the Ottawa Senators, off waivers on Sunday.
Some observers on social networks saw that the Montreal Canadiens had their sights set on the 23-year-old rearguard due to the lack of depth in the group on the right of the blue line. The Ducks eventually defeated them and gained precedence over all other teams in the National League.

Thomson was the 19th pick in the 2019 draft. We once saw great potential in this young defenseman with good offensive skills, but he didn’t develop as expected.
He collected 33 points, including seven goals, in 56 American League games with the Belleville Senators in 2022-2023, a margin of -9.
With Chris Wideman on the field, the Canadian doesn’t have many options on the right defensively. Logan Mailloux is still with the team, a sign that we may want to give him an audition early in the season. Right-hander Gustav Lindstrom, acquired from the Detroit Red Wings in the offseason, is currently completing a tentative training camp.
