American actor Tom Hanks took to Instagram on Sunday to denounce an advertisement for a dental care insurance company that allegedly used his image without his knowledge and created it from A to Z using artificial intelligence.
“Attention!! There is a video promoting a dental plan with an AI version of me. I have nothing to do with it,” he said in his post to his 9.5 million followers on Instagram on Sunday, accompanying a Image of yourself looking younger.
This is not the first time the Hollywood actor has reportedly expressed concerns about artificial intelligence, although he has previously endorsed the process in some of his films, including The Polar Express in 2004 and A Man Called Otto in 2022 , which, according to The Guardian, would feature passages from the computer-generated actor.
“I can tell you that there are ongoing discussions in every guild, every agency and every law firm about the legal implications of having my face and my voice – and everyone else’s – our intellectual property,” he confided last April in a podcast on , shortly before the Hollywood writers’ strike, British media report.
Given the rapid advances in technology, it was no surprise that the actor pointed out the realism of the images generated by artificial intelligence, which makes it difficult to distinguish them from reality.
