Trump says he would rather be electrocuted than eaten by a shark and complains that Biden is trying to make boats heavier by adding electric batteries
- Trump was targeting electrically powered boats
- He said if he was “worried” about sitting on an electric battery on a sinking ship
- Trump would prefer “being electrocuted every time” to being eaten
Donald Trump would choose electrocution rather than shark bait if he had to die at sea, the former president said in a bizarre tirade during a campaign speech in landlocked Iowa.
Trump made the shocking comment during a long diversion on the downside risks of electric batteries and boats.
“But if I sit down and the boat is sinking and I’m on a battery and the water starts coming in – then I’m worried,” Trump said Sunday.
“But then I look ten meters to the left and there’s a shark over there. So I have the choice between electrocution and shark. Do you know what I’ll take? Electric shock. I will get electrocuted every time. Do we agree?’ Trump said, stumbling over the pronunciation of “electrocution” the first time he said it.
Former President Trump said he would choose electrocution over a shark attack “every time.”
“Every time,” he emphasized in a clip shared by a Twitter critic Ron Filipkowski.
He made the comments a day before he faced a different kind of threat – the prospect that Judge Arthur Engoron would take out part of his real estate empire during the penalty phase of his civil fraud case.
Trump lashed out at the “rogue” judge while attacking Attorney General Letitia James.
Trump’s dark deflection about which route he would take to Davey Jones’ locker came days after his prime-time address to the Republican primary debate in Michigan, in which he also railed against electric cars and complained about drive times and the need for recharging.
“People have no idea how bad this is going to be for the environment too.” You know, when these batteries are thrown away, a lot of bad things happen. And if they dig it out of the ground to make these batteries, it’s going to be very harmful to the environment,” Trump said in a claim that the New York Times fact-checker called “misleading.”

Trump turned down a role as president in “Sharknado 3,” as reported in 2017
Previously, he addressed what he called a “ridiculous hoax about all-electric cars” in remarks related to a United Auto Workers strike.
“Crooked Joe sold them on his ridiculous electric car hoax,” Trump posted. “Within three years, all of these cars will be made in China.”
Trump has shown a longer-term interest in boats – and sharks.
In 1991, Trump wiped out his 281-foot superyacht Trump Princess while simultaneously getting out of debt.
In 2017, during his first year in office, the Hollywood Reporter revealed that Trump had signed on to play the president in Sharknado 3 before announcing his candidacy.
