Seventeen authors and composers were recognized by the Professional Society of Authors and Composers of Quebec (SPACQ) Foundation on Monday evening at its annual gala.
This year, the Choses Sauvages group received the prestigious André Dédé Fortin Prize, which annually honors an artist’s young career. An award that, like all the other prizes presented on Monday, also comes with a $10,000 scholarship. Les Louanges, Klô Pelgag, Loud and Ariane Roy have already received this award in the past.
Philippe-Audrey Larrue-Saint-Jacques, this year’s only award-winning comedian, won the Clémence DesRochers Prize, which rewards excellence in fantasy.
For her part, rapper Jenny Salgado won the Karim Ouellet Prize, created last year to honor artists who stand out for their cosmopolitanism.
René Simard won the Michel Louvain Prize for male performance, while Daniel Lavoie and Laurent Guardo won the Beau Dommage Prize for their creative contribution to the project “Daniel Lavoie chante Rimbaud”.
Acadian Lisa Leblanc won the Robert Charlebois Prize for her international influence, while Guylaine Tanguay received the Paul Daraîche Prize for her contribution to country music.
Finally, Bruno Pelletier received the Luc Plamondon Prize, which honors a poet to highlight the excellence of his writing.
The awards evening, hosted for the second year in a row by Geneviève Borne, took place at the Cinéma Impérial in Montreal and brought together numerous creators and personalities from the business and broadcasting worlds.
Every year since 2006, the SPACQ Foundation has honored artists who have left their mark on the cultural scene through the quality of their writing or musical composition. A total of $170,000 in scholarships were awarded Monday evening.
