Paris Fashion Week started on Monday and runs until October 3rd. 107 brands are presenting, including 67 fashion shows.
One of the first big names was Pierre Cardin, who returned to the official Paris lineup this year for the first time in a quarter of a century.
The show was full of retro space-age outfits reminiscent of its glory days, but relatives of Cardin, who died in 2020, are currently fighting in court over the inheritance.
“My uncle gave me the task of maintaining the house and its style,” Rodrigo Basilicati-Cardin, who currently runs the label, said backstage.
“If the brand is sold, that will be the end of the house.” “I am confident that the court decisions will ensure continuity,” he added.
Other highlights on Tuesday included Dior’s latest collection, where the walls of the show were covered in fake sexist slogans from old commercials such as “Save your marriage – iron it right.”
Funky: Anna Dello Russo showed off her quirky style in white and purple pants teamed with a matching cardigan and sheer tights
Chic: Tamara Kalinic looks incredible in a plunging beige floral midi dress
Sisters: Ami and Aya Suzuki wore matching bold looks and a pink bob
Maria Grazia Chiuri’s collection, which recently dressed Queen Camilla for her state dinner at Versailles, was a largely monochrome affair with comfortable, breezy pieces alongside simple, masculine jackets, pleated skirts and plenty of knitwear.
The final shows of two well-known designers will take place later this week.
Gabriela Hearst leaves Chloe after less than three years.
Her focus on sustainable fashion was critically acclaimed, but didn’t bring much of a sales boost.
It will also be the final show for Sarah Burton, who took over from Alexander McQueen following the founder’s suicide in 2010.
