Chicago Blackhawks junior Connor Bedard scored a goal and two assists in a 4-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings in a preseason game at the United Center on Tuesday night.
In the second period, the first-ever pick of the last National League draft handed the puck to defenseman Connor Murphy after winning a faceoff in the Wings zone. The guard then beat the opposing goalie with a shot into the top of the net.
Bedard also had a hand in Corey Perry’s second hit of the game, which helped break the tie in the third period. This goal was scored with the man advantage. The young prodigy ended his productive evening of work by completing the score in an empty net. So far in the preparation calendar he has collected one goal and four assists in three games.
Quebecer Joseph Veleno scored two goals for the Red Wings. For his first goal, he went for a powerful one-timer that left goalkeeper Petr Mrazek little chance. A quick wrist shot achieved the same result later in the game.
Another great opportunity for Drouin
At the American Airlines Center, Colorado Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar let Quebecer Jonathan Drouin once again demonstrate his skills.
The former Montreal Canadiens spent nearly 18 minutes on the ice in a 3-1 loss to the Dallas Stars. He was the fifth-most used attackman in a game that saw most of the Avs’ big talent released. Drouin received a minor penalty, took a shot and finished his match with a margin of -1.
On the Stars side, the club’s stars wore uniforms. James Robertson and Joe Pavelski also scored, while Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn each had an assist.
A second shutout for Johansson
At the Amway Center, Tampa Bay Lightning goalkeeper Jonas Johansson stopped all of the Florida Panthers’ shots in a 2-0 win.
For the 28-year-old athlete, it is the second shutout in as many preparatory starts. He made 42 saves against the Carolina Hurricanes last Friday. He had to take 21 shots against the Panthers.
The “Bolts” achieved their two successes on the power play. Tanner Jeannot and Nick Paul were the authors of these goals in the first and third periods, respectively.
Quebec’s Alex Barré-Boulet got an assist on his team’s second goal.
