The man who harassed reporter Bianca Chaboudet live on television was identified by police, taken to the police station and charged with sexual harassment. The case was confirmed by the delegate in charge of the case, Rafael Barcia, this Tuesday 3rd to Inter TV RJ, a subsidiary of Rede Globo.
According to the delegate, the man was questioned and released. He’s free because he wasn’t caught redhanded. The penalty for sexual harassment can be up to 5 years in prison.

“That is why it is so important that women can go to the police, report the incident and register it so that this type of crime does not happen again,” commented Barcia.
The Report contacted the Rio de Janeiro Civil Police to request further details on the case, but did not receive a response at the time of publication.
The crime involved Bianca Chaboudet, a journalist from Inter TV RJ, a subsidiary of Rede Globo, while she was reporting for RJTV on a civil defense operation against drowning people in Maricá, Rio de Janeiro.
Bianca was performing live when she was surprised by a man who came up behind the reporter and tried to kiss her face. It can be seen that the place was still busy, but that did not stop him from committing the crime.
Later, the journalist posted on Instagram about the situation and said the man even stopped behind the camera and said things that Bianca couldn’t hear because she continued with the news. The reporter reported destabilization. “It was a terrible feeling,” he described.
On Monday, Inter TV RJ released a statement of denial and said it would provide Bianca with the necessary support. The statement, signed by Rolf Danziger, the subsidiary’s journalism director, described the case as “an unacceptable act of violence and disrespect.”
“This cowardly act is not only an outrage against Bianca, but an affront to all women and all journalists who are at the forefront of the news,” the statement said. “No professional deserves to be the victim of aggression while doing his job with dedication and commitment.”
