The miner “had his hand severed when a test tube containing various chemicals exploded. In all likelihood it was “TATP”, a homemade explosive, Caen prosecutor Joël Garrigue told AFP, confirming information from the Ouest France newspaper.
TATP (Acetone Peroxide) can be prepared from various commercially available substances (acetone, hydrogen peroxide, etc.). It is considered unstable and has been used in particular in numerous terrorist attacks.
According to Ouest-France, the explosion occurred in the attic of the family apartment when the teenager shook a test tube he was holding.
The Caen public prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation to clarify the circumstances in which the young man was injured.
