He shoots his grandson while he wants to get married “with a bang” – TVA Nouvelles

A wedding turned into a nightmare in the United States last weekend when a sexagenarian from Texas accidentally shot and killed his grandson.

On Saturday, Michael Gardner, 62, was scheduled to officiate the ceremony at Hillside Events in Denton, Nebraska. However, it was delayed because someone forgot the wedding rings, causing guests to scatter while waiting.

“In the end, we learned that the man presiding over the ceremony wanted to get everyone’s attention with a ‘bang’ by firing a blank shot into the air with a revolver,” said a deputy chief of the Lancaster Sheriff’s Office County, Ben Houchin.

“When he decided to pull back the hammer on that revolver, it slipped and he fired at his grandson, hitting him in the left shoulder,” Mr. Houchin continued.

The 12-year-old child was taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening because the gun was loaded with blank cartridges.

“We do not believe Michael intended to harm him [petit-fils]but his act was not very intelligent,” Houchin said.

Michael Gardner was charged with child molestation for carelessly firing a gun and injuring someone.
