Norwegian writer Jon Fosse wins 2023 Nobel Prize in Literature

(CNN) – The 2023 Nobel Prize in Literature was awarded this Thursday to Norwegian author Jon Fosse “for his innovative works and prose that give voice to the unspeakable,” according to the Swedish Academy that bestows the important award.

Fosse, born in 1959 in Haugesund, Norway, made his debut in 1983 with the novel “Raudt, svart” (Red, Black).

Fosse has written novels, short stories, poems, children’s books, essays and plays. His works have been translated into more than forty languages. He is widely regarded as one of the world’s greatest contemporary playwrights.
