Pamela Anderson is one of the celebrities who embraces no-makeup looks – and Jamie Lee Curtis says we can learn a lot from her.

Curtis, 64, shouted out Anderson, 56, on Instagram on Sunday, sharing a photo of the former “Baywatch” star flaunting her natural beauty at the Isabel Marant Spring/Summer 2024 women’s fashion show in late September, where she did not appear wear any makeup.

“THE NATURAL BEAUTY REVOLUTION HAS OFFICIALLY BEGIN!” Curtis wrote, tagging Anderson. “This woman showed up and claimed her place at the table without her face being seen. I am so humbled and overwhelmed by this act of courage and rebellion.”

Anderson isn’t the only public figure to adopt a natural look lately. In August 2020, Kelly Ripa poked fun at her gray roots, and in March 2021, Katie Couric went makeup-free for a spread in People magazine, saying the experience made her feel “liberated and vulnerable.” Justine Bateman opened up to 60 Minutes Australia in April that despite online comments about her appearance, she thinks she looks “badass” as she ages.

“I like feeling like I’m a different person now than I was when I was 20,” Bateman said. “I like looking in the mirror and seeing that evidence. … I think my face represents who I am. I like it.”

“Men seem to thrive better as they get older…The same should be true for women.”

Susan Yara, founder of Naturium Skincare and the YouTube channel Mixed Makeup, previously told USA TODAY that Couric’s headline-grabbing People show goes against the norm “that women fade into the background as they get older.”

“Men seem to thrive better as they get older,” she said. “The same should apply to women. We are more confident and self-assured and bring with us wisdom that can only come with age.”

Cassandra Bankson, a medical esthetician and skincare YouTube personality, added, “Being able to age is a privilege” and “we should embrace how our skin takes care of us and the stories it tells.”

Bateman appeared to share this sentiment when she explained to “60 Minutes Australia” her motivation for refusing cosmetic procedures, saying she believed they would “erase” the authority she had acquired over the years.

Tips on how to enjoy your natural look

If you feel like you’re wearing no makeup or are seeing signs of aging, experts can give you the following advice:

  • Curate your social media: Michael Keyes, MD, a plastic surgery fellow at the University of Louisville, encourages people to follow influencers who post unfiltered and raw photos. He added that it’s important to remember that celebrities “often use filters and photo editing apps to minimize skin discoloration, wrinkles and extra oil in unwanted places. From a health perspective, it is important to recognize what is real and what is not.”
  • Customize your makeup routine: Aging is inevitable, but you can still take steps to look and feel your best. Heidi Goodarzi, MD, a board-certified dermatologist specializing in cosmetic and medical dermatology, suggested replacing foundation with tinted sunscreen for a glowing glow that doesn’t obscure your natural features.
  • Be kind to yourself: Yara reminds us that as we get older, we should be proud of our bodies and the experiences they have had. “My confidence is truly my secret weapon, and it’s something I’ve earned through years of experience and being comfortable with myself,” she said.
