(CNN Spanish) – “Beckham” offers an insight into the life and career of former British footballer David Beckham and focuses on his love story with Victoria Beckham.
A statement made by the Spice Girl in the first episode of the new Netflix documentary mini-series has caused a stir online, particularly due to the former player’s reaction upon hearing it.
“Be honest”: Why did David Beckham scold his wife?
Victoria shares what attracted her to Beckham at the start of their relationship: “I think we both come from very hard-working families. “Our parents work very hard, we are working class.” Her husband immediately looks in from the next room and tells her: “Be honest.”
She looks at him, ignores him and continues talking, but he insists that she is being honest and asks, “What car did your father drive you to school in?” The designer’s answer hardly seems to support her argument: ” In the 80s my father had a Rolls Royce.” “Thank you very much,” Beckham replies and ends the discussion.
This episode caused a huge response on social networks. As usual when a controversial, unusual or just plain funny video goes viral, X (formerly Twitter) users got creative.
User @dulljigsawpiece wrote: “Victoria Beckham was trying to say she was working class when she was literally promoted as Posh Spice throughout her career.”
@wtchingszn wrote: “Victoria Beckham dressed as a worker is really funny.”
Another (@albertomace) tried to defend her, but with a joke: “Maybe Victoria Beckham’s dad was a little used Rolls Royce and we’re talking without knowing.”
Even Netflix itself took Victoria Beckham’s statements in a funny way.
On his Spain X account (@NetflixES), he wrote: “Is Victoria working class? “David Beckham does the fact checking,” with a video accompanied by the moment Beckham asks his partner to tell the truth about his heritage.

The documentary miniseries is directed by “Succession” star Fisher Stevens, who paints a complex portrait of the football icon.
After more than 30 hours of interviews with the former player and about 14 hours of interviews with his wife, he received unpublished statements about her career, her mental health, suspicions of infidelity and his life in the United States, where Beckham is co-owner and works as president of football operations for Inter Miami, whose top figure is now Lionel Messi.
All 4 episodes of “Beckham” are available on Netflix.
