“We want our parking spaces!”: Another demonstration against the new bike paths in Saint-Michel –

About fifty people leave Thursday evening in the Montreal borough of Saint-Michel to demand the return of the hundred parking spaces the borough removed to create bike paths in the area.

Resistance to new cycle routes continues unabated in the Villeray-Saint-Michel-Parc Extension.

On the Saint-Michel side, this is the fourth demonstration in as many weeks denouncing the projects on Rue Legendre and Rue de Louvain, which saw the partial or total removal of 104 parking spaces.

“We want our parking lot!” the demonstrators shouted to the sound of drums as they strolled through several residential streets in the district.

“We were not consulted. We arrived and it was done [les pistes cyclables], complained Chantal Bellemare, resident of the neighborhood. There are no fewer cars because there are bike paths!”
