Smartphone screens seem to be getting bigger and bigger, and the Google Pixel range is no exception. While the Pixel 8 is about to be released, rumors are already circulating about the screen dimensions of the future Pixel 9, 9 Pro and 9a.

Although the Google Pixel 8 series was only recently launched, the brand’s next models are already in the spotlight and piquing the enthusiasm of technology enthusiasts.
Widespread trend: screen enlargement
The Google Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9a are likely to follow a trend that has now become established in the world of smartphones: increasing the size of the screen. A rumor, particularly widespread from analyst Ross Young, reports that larger AMOLED panels are planned for these three models in 2025.
This information is not trivial. She illustrates a common dynamic seen across most smartphone manufacturersincluding Apple, which was rumored to offer an iPhone 16 Pro Max with a screen of up to 6.9 inches in September 2024.
At Google, the standard Pixel 8 and Pro models have 6.2-inch and 6.7-inch screens, respectively, both of which are flat. The transition to larger screens therefore seems unstoppable and Google will undoubtedly be no exception to this rule.
Why this race for size?
It is legitimate to question the reasons that drive manufacturers to opt for ever larger screens. This development primarily meets growing demand from users who want more comfortable display interfaces for watching videos, surfing the Internet or using various applications. Booming mobile gaming also benefits from these enlarged screens and offers an even more immersive user experience.
But doesn’t this race for size come at the expense of the devices’ ease of use and maneuverability? Finding the balance is difficult, and manufacturers must innovate to offer designs that are easy to use even with generously sized screens.
Personally, I remain nostalgic for models with reduced screens, like the Pixel 4 or the iPhone 12 mini. The trend is clearly towards size and it seems unlikely that the market will reverse. It remains to be seen how brands will manage to balance screen size and ergonomics and offer devices that do not have to sacrifice comfort or functionality.
