Recently, auction house Heritage Auctions managed to sell a rare Lincoln cent for $60,000.
There were 37 people who offered increasing amounts of money until they reached the above amount.
The penny was created in 1909, the same year this coin featuring President Lincoln’s face was released..
The particular coin being auctioned is extremely valuable because it is red in color.
The penny was designed by Victor David Brenner and therefore bears the initials VDB.
If you see these initials on a coin, you may have a valuable penny on your hands.
¢1 cent coins from the same period are usually red and brown or all brown, but the coin being auctioned by Heritage Auctions is all red.
And because red coins are the hardest to find, they are the most valuable to Lincoln cent collectors.
