(Laval) A 65-year-old teacher suffered injuries to his upper body after he was attacked by a 13-year-old student in the middle of class at a school in Laval on Thursday afternoon.

According to Laval City Police Department (SPL) spokeswoman Érika Landry, the incident occurred shortly after dinner at the Odyssée-des-Jeunes school.
The teacher allegedly asked the student to change her behavior, after which the young girl allegedly attacked her. Some students reported that the attack was carried out with scissors, but that information was not confirmed by police, Sergeant Landry said.
The surrounding students tried to intervene and the teaching staff were finally able to get the student under control.
According to the police spokeswoman, the teacher was taken to the hospital for treatment of upper body injuries and possible nervous shock. The teenager was also taken to the hospital to undergo a psychological evaluation.
In the evening, the young suspect was arrested by the police for armed assault and released upon summons. She is therefore no longer in custody pending possible arraignment.
The file will soon be forwarded to the district attorney’s office, Sergeant Landry said.
The school and the Laval School Service Center had not responded to an email from La Presse Canadienne at the time of writing.
