A Delorean at Comiccon Quebec: a full plutonium tank far from time travel

Film fan Back to the Future, Stéphane Girouard transformed his 1983 Delorean into an almost identical replica of the Delorean that carried Marty McFly in 1955. Everything he’s missing? Plutonium to let them travel through time.

“I have to admit I’m having trouble finding them. If you ever know anyone who has plutonium, I’m interested,” laughs the man who is showcasing his fascinating car at Comiccon Quebec at the Convention Center this weekend.

In front of the photographers’ eyes, Stéphane Girouard pushed the game so far on Friday that he dressed up as Marty McFly. On his belt he wore a real AIWA player with a Van Halen cassette. At his side, his partner had dressed in Doc Brown’s clothing.

A fan of old cars, Mr. Girouard bought his Delorean 15 years ago for $12,000. “At first I didn’t want to change it, but my Back to the Future side took over. I converted it without modifying the car, without drilling any holes. I can easily restore it to its original condition. »

Like in the movie

Stéphane Girouard resourcefully searched the Internet for the parts that adorn his Delorean, including the dial with the dates of the past, present and future. He estimates his investment at around $6,000 and countless hours of work.

It takes a trained eye, he says, to recognize things that are different from the car in the film.

“It takes an expert who knows all the lines by heart and can say that the little thread that’s there doesn’t quite go to the same place as the one in the film. However, there are differences in the film as several cars were used during filming. I can even tell you that there is an eighth note in a yellow wire in my car, the same one in the movie. »

In Quebec we dress smart

This weekend there will be several crazy people like Stéphane Girouard in Quebec. In front of a line-up of Star Wars characters, Cliff Caporale, general manager of Comiccon Quebec, which organizes similar events in Montreal, Ottawa and Winnipeg, praised people in the capital’s enthusiasm for dressing up.

“A lot of people work on their costumes all year round. For what ? I would like to do a study on this topic, but I think there are a lot of artists in Quebec. »
