Oct 6 (Portal) – Pharmacy workers at some U.S. Walgreens stores (WBA.O), including pharmacists, technicians and support staff, are planning a strike between Monday and Wednesday, CNN reported on Friday, citing an organizer.

Some employees plan to leave for one day, while others expect to close their pharmacies for all three days, the network said, citing employees in three states.

The strike is in response to what pharmacy employees describe as burdensome prescribing and vaccination expectations placed on pharmacists, the report said.

Portal could not immediately reach employees involved in the reported action for comment.

Walgreens said in an email response that it was engaged and listening to the concerns of some of its team members. “We are investing significantly in pharmacist wages and hiring bonuses to attract/retain talent in hard-to-staff locations,” the company said.

Kaiser Permanente nurses, medical technicians and support staff walked off work in hospitals and clinics for 72 hours this week in the largest healthcare strike ever in the United States.

The strike by 75,000 workers ended on Friday as both sides agreed to restart stalled collective bargaining, although union officials warned of possible further work stoppages.
