The flight attendant became the first transgender woman to compete in the final in Portugal. She is “proud to be part of this incredible group of finalists.”
For the first time, a transgender woman won the Miss Portugal contest. In the competition held in the city of Borba, in the southeast of the country, flight attendant Marina Machete, 28, was named the most beautiful woman in the country, Portuguese media reported on Friday. Machete wrote on social media before her win that she was proud to be the first transgender woman to compete for the Miss Portugal title.
“For years I was unable to participate and today I am proud to be part of this incredible group of finalists,” he added. Machete, 28 years old, will now represent Portugal in the Miss Universe contest, in November, in El Salvador, Central America, where she will face another transsexual woman, Dutch Rikkie Kolle, 22 years old.
