“Unfortunately, the number of casualties is very high,” according to a new official report released on Sunday, October 8, by Bilal Karimi, the Taliban’s deputy government spokesman, in a powerful earthquake that struck western Afghanistan on Saturday and caused enormous damage, killing more than 1,000 people. “We are waiting for the final numbers,” he continued.
