Josh Bailey loses his bet

Josh Bailey couldn’t convince the Senators’ leadership.

He was released, the Ottawa team announced on Sunday morning. He will therefore become a free agent without compensation.

The 34-year-old veteran received a professional trial contract with the “Sens” on September 14th.

Bailey may well decide to retire in the coming days.

The Ontario native spent his entire career with the New York Islanders, amassing 580 points in 1,057 games over 15 seasons. He showed signs of slowing down last season, amassing just 25 points in 64 games.

On June 29th, the ninth overall pick in the 2008 draft was traded to the Chicago Blackhawks. However, the final year of his contract, which was supposed to pay him $5 million between 2023 and 2024, was quickly bought out by the Illinois organization.

Additionally, the Senators will place Quebec forward Bokondji Imama on waivers at 2 p.m.

The 32 teams have until Monday at 5 p.m. to submit their final roster to the NHL.
