Subject to a waiver, Raphaël Lavoie is scheming

The Edmonton Oilers placed Quebec forward Raphaël Lavoie on waivers on Sunday.

The latter may therefore not have been able to convince the management of the Alberta club to keep him in training for the start of the regular season. The former member of the Halifax Mooseheads has not played a single game in the National Hockey League (NHL) since the beginning of his career.

The 38th overall pick in the 2019 draft spent the last three seasons in the American League with the Bakersfield Condors, the Oilers’ farm club. He has 25 goals and 20 assists for 45 points in 61 points in 2022-2023.

Note that Lavoie is represented by Philippe Lecavalier of Quartexx Management, the former agency of current Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes. So the latter must know Lavoie very well.

Among the other players in action today we find defensemen Lassi Thomson (Anaheim Ducks) and Zach Bogosian (Tampa Bay Lightning) as well as goalkeeper Martin Jones (Toronto Maple Leafs). Forward Grigori Denisenko, signed by the Vegas Golden Knights yesterday, suffered the same fate as the three aforementioned players.

Maple Leafs-Canucks trade

The Toronto Maple Leafs have secured a 2024 fifth-round pick from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for forward Sam Lafferty.

The 28-year-old athlete collected two goals and four assists in 19 games for the Toronto club last season.
