Kaytranada cancels show on The Weeknd tour due to storm in Rio

Sao Paulo

DJ Kaytranada, who was supposed to open the show of the singer The Weeknd this Saturday evening (7) in Rio de Janeiro, had to cancel his participation due to bad weather.

The announcement was made via the artist’s social networks. “I’m sorry, Rio. I’m not performing for Abel tonight,” Kaytranada wrote. However, the DJ’s participation in the shows in São Paulo remains.

The heavy rain that hit the capital, Rio de Janeiro, caused further problems. Hours before the start of the performance of the “After Hours Till Dawn” tour, part of the audience was removed from the lawn of the Nilton Santos Stadium, located in Engenho de Dentro in the north of the city.

For safety reasons, the organizers decided to ban people from the huge open space because there was a risk of a lightning strike. At around 7:30 p.m. the audience on the lawn was moved to a shelter by the organizers.

In a statement posted on social media, Live Nation, responsible for organizing the event, apologized for the inconvenience.

“We apologize for the delay due to weather. The Weeknd show in Rio de Janeiro has not been canceled and will begin soon. We are pleased to announce that the audience has already reentered the stadium and the show will begin soon,” the note reads.
