US Deputy Ambassador to the UN Wood complained that the majority condemned the massive attack. However, there was no unanimous reaction. Israeli representative Erdan spoke of the flagrant war crimes committed by Hamas and literally of his country’s “9/11”. It showed images of Israeli civilians being abused and kidnapped by armed Palestinians. Palestinian Authority Ambassador Mansur called on the Security Council to focus on ending the Israeli occupation.

The Russian representative, Nebensia, called for an immediate end to the fighting and a ceasefire. For China, UN Ambassador Zhang Jun called for peace negotiations with the aim of a two-state solution.
