Big Brother contestant Hallie has come out as transgender to her housemates and admitted she felt like she wasn’t being “authentic” for not telling them.
The 18-year-old youth worker was seen entering the show’s famous home on ITV on Sunday night as the show returned to British television after a five-year break.
She decided not to tell her fellow contestants on the show her story on launch night, but her mind changed the next day.
In scenes airing on ITV2 and ITVX on Monday night, the housemates are seen gathered around the dinner table discussing their living situation.
Hallie says, “Hey guys, I just have something to say.” “Yesterday I felt like I wasn’t being 100% authentic to myself.”
Emotional: 18-year-old Big Brother contestant Hallie has come out as transgender to her housemates and admitted she felt like she wasn’t being “authentic” for not telling them
She adds: “I thought I’d let everyone know that I’m transsexual in case you don’t already know.” I just thought I’d make that clear and clear. “I’m a trans woman, in case you didn’t know.”
Hallie’s roommates hug her and Chanelle says, “Good for you.” That’s very brave of you.”
As the housemates show their support for Hallie, Dylan says, “This is a moment. ‘I like this.’
Hallie says, “I don’t know why I was nervous,” to which Farida says, “You don’t have to be nervous.”
Trish tells Hallie, “We got you.”
Hallie isn’t the first transgender housemate to appear on Big Brother – trans woman Nadia Almada won the show in 2004 and trans man Luke Anderson triumphed in 2012.
At 18, Hallie was the youngest of the 16 housemates to enter the Big Brother house during opening night on Sunday.
On why she applied to take part in the show, she said: “Just the whole experience.” I believe Big Brother is the greatest social experiment and I want to be a part of it.
“It’s about showing my face and just having fun and enjoying life.” I’m only 18 so I didn’t grow up watching it, but as I got older I watched clips on YouTube and so respected, so I became a fan. And yes, really just for fun?’
As for what she’s most looking forward to about the experience, she added, “The tasks and all the different personalities.” I imagine these are extroverted people and big personalities. Just the whole experience.’
She said her friends and family described her as a “diva” and explained: “I speak my mind but I’m also a very lovely person. “I’m definitely a girl’s girl. “I’m honest, funny and, yes, just brilliant.”
As to why she’s most likely to be nominated, she said: “Being lazy and having an opinion.” I’m quite opinionated, I like to express my opinion and not many people like that. I’m very real.’
Big Brother returned to British television with a barman, a make-up artist, a butcher and a youth worker among the contestants who entered the famous house on Sunday.
Success: Nadia Almada, now 46, was crowned Series 5 champion in 2004 and made history as the first transgender contestant ever to appear on the Channel 4 show (Nadi, left, pictured with then Big Brother presenter Davina McCall, right, in 2004). )
Champ: Trans man Luke Anderson won the show in 2012 (Luke is seen here entering the house before his series in 2012)
The influential social experiment, in which housemates live together in a bespoke home without access to the outside world for weeks in a bid to win £100,000, has opened its doors for the first time in five years.
After it was canceled by Channel 5 due to a ratings slump in 2018, new presenters AJ Odudu and Will Best introduced the brand new house to a group of 16 contestants in front of a live studio audience.
Big Brother started on Channel 4 in 2000 before Channel 5 took over in 2011 and aired in the UK for a total of 18 years.
Big Brother continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.

JORDAN
AGE: 25
PROFESSION: Lawyer
FROM: Scunthorpe
What are you most likely to be nominated for? “I’m argumentative and act like I don’t want to be there, even when I do in my heart.” Maybe they nominate me because I’m uninterested or because I don’t give everyone equal attention. You may feel left out, but there’s nothing I can do about it.’

I like doing something different and think this is the next challenge I want to tackle. I want to show people what beauty girls are really like and refute many stereotypes around them. I also show what it’s like to be a woman who has worked in male-dominated fields. “I want to show that women are capable of doing anything they want.”

CHANELLE
AGE: 29
PROFESSION: Dental therapist
FROM: Llanelli
What are you most likely to be nominated for? “Probably just because I’m annoying.” There’s this saying in Wales: “I’ll do it in a minute.” For example, if I were preparing food and left a dish next to it, I would have good intentions to wash it up, but I’d say, “I’ll do that in a minute,” and it might be three hours later before I do it. So probably for stupid things like that.’

FROM: Cotswolds
HOW WOULD YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY DESCRIBE YOU? “I think you would say that I am particularly outgoing and very talkative. They would say I’m quite a strange child.’
Kerry
AGE: 40
OCCUPATION: NHS manager
FROM: Essex
Why did you apply to be a housemate on Big Brother? “I love the program. For me it is the ultimate reality TV show of all time. I suffer from multiple sclerosis and that’s why I’ve never applied because I always saw these huge stairs crashing into the house. It just felt a bit out of reach because I was in a wheelchair for the first three years of my illness. When I saw it come back and was looking for real people from all walks of life, I thought: This is my year.”
