Stockholm – Claudia Goldin makes history. Since the Nobel Prize in Economics was first awarded in 1969, no woman has won it alone. But this year the prize goes exclusively to the American economic historian from Harvard University. The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced on Monday that she received the award primarily because of her research into the gender pay gap. “Her research has given us new and often surprising insights into the historical and current role of women in the workforce,” the press conference stated. Goldin is a professor of economics at Harvard University, in the USA, and director of the American Economic Development Program.
