Venezuelan president calls for ceasefire in Gaza and recognition of Palestine’s historic rights

CARACAS, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) — Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro this evening called on the international community to call for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip as well as the start of peace negotiations leading to the recognition of Palestine’s historic rights in its territory.

“Let us demand a ceasefire, let us demand respect for the rights of the people and let us demand that peace negotiations begin immediately to restore the historical rights of the Palestinian people to independence, territory and peace,” the head of state told Venezuelan state television.

Maduro condemned that “genocide and indiscriminate bombings are currently being carried out against the Palestinian people in Gaza,” stressing that “the Palestinian people have been subjected to a new apartheid for 75 years. It is a historical dispossession that can be seen in the territory”.

“There are those who carelessly express their opinions on this conflict,” Maduro said, while reiterating his government’s support for the cause of the Palestinian people.

The President recalled that the United Nations (UN) established the recognition of the State of Palestine and called on the international community to demand compliance with the agreements reached by the multilateral organization.

“What is happening at this moment, the beginning of an escalating war that endangers the peace and security of all peoples of the planet, is the result of the permanent violation of the United Nations Convention, the permanent violation of human rights. “People of the Palestinian people,” emphasized Maduro.

Finally, Maduro called on the population to study the history of the conflict between Israel and Palestine, while denouncing that for years the hegemonic Western media had hidden or downplayed the abuses, expropriations and massacres committed against Palestine. End
