Gaza Israel Hamas and war crimes

Gaza, Israel, Hamas and war crimes

Israel commits war crimes that few leaders dare to denounce for fear of being accused of anti-Semitism.

The blockade of the Gaza Strip and the bombing of several civilian facilities in the Gaza Strip, such as schools and hospitals, constitute war crimes.

The Israeli Defense Minister even went so far as to declare: “We are fighting against human animals and we are acting accordingly.”

In a normal democracy, the Israeli defense minister’s statement that amounts to viewing Palestinians as animals would result in his dismissal.

The Russian military’s blockades of Ukrainian civilians and the bombing of Ukrainian civilian facilities were rightly viewed as war crimes. Some Israeli army actions fall into the same category.

Hamas extremist

Hamas, which targeted civilians and took many of them hostage, also committed war crimes.

Hamas is an extremist organization that aims to expel all Jews from Israeli territory in order to establish a totalitarian Islamist republic. Nothing surprises him anymore.

But we expect more from Israel, which is led by a democratic government and is supposed to defend rights and freedoms.

However, due to the proportional electoral system, Israeli politics is increasingly being hijacked by extremist religious Jews. They want to occupy all Palestinian territories and try to impose their own totalitarian religious logic.

Impossible peace

Peace between Israelis and Palestinians would have been possible 30 years ago.

But the Israeli government has allowed extremist religious influence, both Jewish and Islamic, to grow. Worse, he even encouraged the establishment of Islamist extremists in Palestinian areas in order, in his opinion, to weaken Yasser Arafat, whose government was secular in orientation.

The result is that Israeli and Palestinian nationalism is now largely driven by religious extremists. Chatting with them is impossible.

Caution

Governments of democratic countries should be very careful in their condemnation of the Palestinians. Certainly Hamas soldiers behave like barbarians. Of course they attacked first. However, this cannot serve as an excuse for the criminal actions of the Israeli army, which must also be denounced.

Public opinion in Muslim countries is already drawing a parallel between the privileges enjoyed by Israel and the treatment reserved for Russia in Ukraine. This could significantly weaken support for Ukraine.

Israel has the right to defend itself. But Gazans also have the right to live a dignified life instead of being forced to live in prison conditions.

This new episode in the war between Israelis and Palestinians is likely to result in a victory for Israel. However, as long as Jewish and Muslim religious extremists thrive, this conflict will fester.
