The chief of the US General Staff warns Iran against interfering in the conflict
According to Portal, U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Charles Q. Brown Jr. warned Iran in a press statement not to “interfere.” Brown is the highest-ranking American military officer. On Monday, the White House accused Iran of complicity in the Hamas attack, but also said that the US has no information or evidence indicating the country’s direct involvement in attacks by the fundamentalist group Hamas in Israel.
Since its founding, Hamas has had various sponsors, including Syria and Saudi Arabia, but Israeli and American intelligence agencies believe that its mainstay is now Iran. Tehran has provided money, weapons and training to these Palestinian militants since the late 1980s.
In April, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant increased the amount of money Iran supplies to Hamas each year to $100 million (94 million euros). He also claimed that Tehran was paying tens of millions to Gaza’s second-largest fundamentalist group, Islamic Jihad, which also took part in Saturday’s attack.
