$3500… for a VR headset that you might not want to wear for long periods of time. We learn this from an article by DigitalTrends, which reports that Apple is already thinking about launching a new version of its Vision Pro. The latter would not aim to offer real new features, but rather to improve comfort, in particular by reducing the weight of the accessories and by providing a more practical solution for those who wear glasses.

This information comes from Mark Gurman, who particularly emphasizes that the Vision Pro “would have caused neck pain during testing due to its size and weight.” It has to be said that, according to initial tests, the helmet alone weighs a little less than 500 grams.

Apple is setting out… to improve a headset that hasn’t hit the market yet

“Work on the next Vision Pro is still in the early stages, but [Apple] hopes to make the device lighter and at least a little smaller,” explains the Bloomberg journalist. “Testing has actually shown that the device appears too heavy for some users even for short periods of time,” he continues.

The company is therefore currently working on optimizing the design of a future version, but also modifying the fastening straps of the original Vision Pro, which is expected early next year. In particular, we learn that the addition of a support strap that runs across the skull could become standard to better distribute the overall weight of the helmet across the head.

We also learn that Apple would try to make its headset easier to use for people who wear glasses. A particularly important area for improvement, as the original Apple Vision Pro did not provide enough space to allow the wearing of corrective glasses. Instead, Apple worked with Zeiss to develop lenses (with a doctor’s prescription) that can be magnetized inside the headset.

However, for the first redesigned version of the Vision Pro, Apple is considering a different solution, this time consisting of delivering customized Vision Pros with prescription lenses pre-installed. A solution that is far from easy to implement and that also entails two major disadvantages: the impossibility of adjusting or changing the correction of these lenses (hence it is difficult to adapt them to changing vision) and the practical impossibility of doing so Resell the device. or just borrow it… as it is made specifically to adapt to the first user’s view.
