Electric guitars belonging to rock legends such as Kurt Cobain and Eric Clapton will be auctioned in the US next month, with some worth an estimated $2 million.

Eric Clapton’s Gibson SG, nicknamed “The Fool,” is closely linked to the singer’s time with the band Cream, during which he created one of rock music’s most distinctive sounds.

Its personalized psychedelic-style decoration makes the instrument one of the most easily recognizable rock instruments and a symbol of the “Summer of Love,” the 1967 counterculture movement that defined an entire generation.

Eric Clapton, whose riffs on songs like “Layla” and “Sunshine of Your Love” earned him a reputation as one of the best guitarists in the world, began using the instrument during Cream’s first tour of the United States.

Another instrument scheduled to be entered into an auction in Nashville, Tennessee (South) starting next month: Kurt Cobain’s left-handed Fender Mustang, which was used at Nirvana’s last concert in Munich.

“We all know Kurt Cobain loved smashing guitars, but the Fender Mustang was his favorite guitar,” Martin Nolan, managing director of Julien’s Auctions, told AFP.

The auction will take place November 16-18 at the Hard Rock Café in Nashville. And part of the proceeds from the sale of the two guitars will go to the Kicking the Sitgma association, which campaigns against mental health problems.
