Copeland wins his first match as his daughters’ new father watches

The main event of AEW Dynamite’s title Tuesday was Adam Copeland’s first AEW match against Luchasaurus.

But first, the AEW faithful were treated to a promo from Christian Cage. He described himself as the hottest guy in the business, and honestly, who am I to argue with the man? (I wouldn’t do that though – my dad died in 1996, so he gutted me.)

Cage didn’t talk about his collision opponent or his paternal loss. But he directed his anger at his former tag team partner. He pointed out that Copeland had no interest in working together when they were back in WWE (he didn’t say WWE, but we knew what he was talking about) and that they pressured the man then known as Edge sat down and left Christian behind. But now that Christian is hot, Copeland suddenly wants in. According to Cage, it is Adam who needs him now and not the other way around.

I don’t recognize any lies.

He then pointed out that Adam’s wife Beth has always been a fan of his. And he even had a message for Adam’s little girls – put some clean sheets on the bed because their new daddy is coming home.

This quickly brought the Rated R Superstar to the fore. But young Nick Wayne grabbed his leg and Luchasaurus knocked him out with a large clothesline before the match began. Copeland insisted that the referee ring the bell and then persisted in hitting long as Christian watched from the ring ramp.

It ultimately took a suicide attempt on a tornado DDT to bring Cope back into the game. He had to take a little more punishment before hitting an Impaler DDT for a near fall.

Adam finally seemed to be in control after a big superplex. But Christian stood up to distract the referee while Nick Wayne set up a chair in the corner. Even though Copeland was watching, he attempted a spear attack on Luchasaura towards that corner and ran straight into the chair.

Copeland would make his biggest move by running from the apron onto the Luchasaurus ring steps to a spear.

He rolled the big man in the ring for another spear as Christian re-entered the match. But while the referee was dealing with Wayne, Cope stole the TNT Title, hitting Luchasaurus in the head and throwing it back to the champion. The big man stared at Christian, thinking he had it, and Cope took the chance to score the victory with the spear.

Everything would come crashing down when Nick Wayne and Luchasaurus attacked Copeland. But Bryan and BCC, the Gates of Agony, Swerve Strickland and Hangman Page would all get involved in a massive brawl.

AEW went off the air when Bryan Christian tapped the Lebell lock ahead of their match on Saturday.

So Adam Copeland ended the title Tuesday as the winner, but in the end Christian is still better.
