With its new trailer Coppolas Priscilla reveals the dark side

With its new trailer, Coppola’s Priscilla reveals the dark side of Elvis Presley – Le Figaro

The biopic, which hits theaters in January 2024, raises questions about the impact of the romance between the 26-year-old king and the 14-year-old student.

After its enthusiastic reception at the Venice Film Festival, where it received a seven-minute ovation and won the best actress award for its revelation “Cailee Spaeny,” Sofia Coppola’s biopic “Priscilla” continues to tour fall festivals. This rather raw, fairy-tale portrait of Elvis Presley’s wife was shown in Zurich and this week at the London Film Festival.

To prepare the most excited viewers for the release, the A24 studio has unveiled the trailer for the film, which is scheduled to hit theaters in early November in the United States and January 3 in France.

The clip shows all the gray areas and questions of influence that the romance between the 26-year-old King, played by Euphoria’s Jacob Elordi, and the 14-year-old student raises. We see Priscilla’s father surprised that the superstar is interested in his daughter while women around the world swoon at his feet. In another scene, the singer insists that the girl change her hairstyle and makeup, even though she is uncomfortable with this style.

Counterpoint to Baz Lurhmann’s vision

Based on Priscilla Presley’s memoir, Priscilla chronicles the couple’s meeting in Germany, where Elvis Presley served in the military, their wedding in Las Vegas in 1967, and the birth of their daughter Lisa Marie nine months later. Without forgetting the first disagreements that led to their divorce in 1973, four before the singer’s death at the age of 42 in 1977.

By adopting Priscilla’s point of view, Sofia Copola offers a counterpoint to Baz Luhrmann’s musical biography Elvis. Austin Butler, who played the King, left a strong impression. And received an Oscar nomination. Priscilla had the features of Australian actress Olivia DeJonge.
