The NYPD has ordered all police officers to report in uniform starting Friday in anticipation of possible unrest stemming from a call by the former Hamas leader to hold global demonstrations in support of Palestinians, the Post has learned.
“All uniformed service members at every rank will perform their duty in the uniform of the day and be prepared for deployment,” said a Wednesday evening memo sent to all NYPD members.
Police officers will not be granted excuses or shift changes and the order will remain in effect “until further notice,” the memo said.
The order came after Khaled Meshaal, who headed Hamas from 2004 to 2017, called on the Islamic world to protest on Friday.
According to an internal memo, the NYPD is also increasing security at all of its 77 precincts and assigning additional officers to monitor entrances and parking lots at station buildings.

Additionally, anticipating the potential chaos, the department activated its Joint Operations Center (JOC) at its headquarters in Manhattan.
Multiple agencies — including the Sanitation Department, the Triborough Bridge & Tunnel Authority and the FDNY — will be required to alert the JOC Thursday through Sunday “as soon as they become aware of incidents related to this event,” the memo said .
