Laval: mechanic and suspected serial offender

A Laval mechanic who was arrested last month for sexually assaulting a customer was just arrested again for allegedly assaulting “several” other women over the past decade.

Police now consider 57-year-old Chukri El Habre to be a suspected serial offender.

For the past 10 years, this Laval mechanic would have used essentially the same approach to satisfy his basic instincts.

He allegedly targeted women who came to his workshop to have a mechanical problem checked.

El Habre then set off, accompanied by the alleged victims, to carry out a “test drive” to determine the problem with the vehicle.

According to the authorities, he sexually touched women in this context.

He is also said to have sexually abused certain victims in his office within his company.

Chukri El Habre was first arrested last spring in connection with a sexual assault that occurred three months earlier.

At the time, Laval police released a photo of the suspect and said they had “good reason to believe” the mechanic may have caused additional casualties.

The initiative has paid off, as no fewer than seven women have contacted the authorities in recent weeks to file a complaint against Chukri El Habre.

Authorities in Laval estimate that the number of women allegedly attacked by the suspect may be even larger.

Anyone who may have been a victim of Chukri El Habre is asked to contact Laval police at 450 662-INFO (4636).

As several victims were identified, the Serial Crime Investigation Management Structure (GECS), coordinated by the Sûreté du Québec, was deployed.
