The entire book itself is a work of art. It sensitively documents the philosophy of “layering” in Japanese culture, which Kuma also interpreted, for example, for “Alberni”, his first residential tower in North America. Inspired by the architect’s concepts and the various layers of his construction project, the process was also incorporated into the book’s design: it is made of wood, 100% cotton paper and handmade washi paper. The materials, production methods and binding techniques of the book’s wooden cover are intended to reflect the traditions of Japanese craftsmanship.
