US Secretary of State Antony Blinken called on Israel on Friday to avoid the deaths of civilians as it prepares to invade Gaza.
“We have called on the Israelis to take every precaution possible to avoid harm to civilians,” Blinken said at a news conference in Qatar.
Qatar wants to open a humanitarian corridor so that aid can reach Gaza.
Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed Bin Abdulrahman al-Thani called on the US to protect civilians from the consequences of the crisis.
Israel has warned over a million people in Gaza to evacuate within 24 hours to minimize civilian casualties.
The ground invasion is a response to last weekend’s murderous attack by the Gaza-based, Iran-backed terror group Hamas that killed hundreds of men, women and children in Israel.

Blinken said he spoke with the Qatari prime minister about the importance of preventing any state or terrorist group from escalating the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
He also said the United States was working hard to secure the release of hostages brought to Gaza by Hamas, including Americans.
