Devon Toews is staying in Colorado for the long haul

Colorado Avalanche management ensured that defenseman Devon Toews’ services will potentially remain for the remainder of his career by granting him a seven-year contract extension on Friday.

According to some sources, including Sportsnet hockey expert Elliotte Friedman, the average annual value of the agreement is $7.25 million, for a total value of $50.75 million. This will therefore end in 2030-2031. This year, the 29-year-old is signing a four-year, $16.4 million contract; he could have become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

Acquired from the New York Islanders for two draft picks in October 2020, Toews has maintained a +122 overall differential, best in the National League, since arriving in Denver. In three years in Colorado, he scored 139 points, including 29 goals, in 200 regular season games, helping the club win the Stanley Cup in 2022.

Last season, the left-handed shooter collected 50 points in 80 appearances, which corresponds to a record of +39. This statistic was slightly lower than the previous calendar (+52).
