Just before Saturday’s general election in New Zealand, a familiar face has resurfaced. Former Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern returned to the election campaign on Wednesday with a Facebook video lasting around eleven minutes. The 43-year-old New Zealander, who unexpectedly resigned earlier this year, is currently completing a fellowship at Harvard University in the US.
She achieved iconic status among many in New Zealand during the five years of her reign. As before, she addressed voters directly and showed her broad smile. Ardern said she has deliberately stayed out of it since she handed over the political “mantle”. But now she wants to express her opinion again.
