Palestine/Israel: Meeting prohibited in Graz

Styrian State Police Directorate (LPD) bans crowds reported on October 14, 2023 in Graz – increased police presence in public spaces

Graz (OTS) – On October 12, 2023, a meeting notice entitled “Current developments in Israel/Palestine based on fundamental solidarity with the Palestinian people, who have been severely oppressed for decades” was received by the LPD Steiermark as security authority local to Graz. As required by law, each reported meeting is subject to individual review by local law enforcement (case-by-case review). This has now shown that the meeting in Graz scheduled for October 14, 2023 should be banned. The reason lies in the expected threat to public order and security.

Increased police presence – ongoing risk analysis

The Styrian police are prepared with an adequate number of emergency services for a possible operation next weekend. Furthermore, the general protection measures ordered since the beginning of the conflict were further reinforced. An increasing and preventive police presence of standby units (BE) and operational units (EE) can be expected in public spaces. Monitoring measures for potentially threatened installations were also intensified. There is currently no specific danger. Current measures are continually reviewed as part of a risk analysis. All information from state security at the federal and state levels is also taken into account.
