An Israeli woman shared her experiences during the Hamas invasion in the community where you live. In an interview with CNN, Irit Lahav said he was with his daughter when militants from the Islamic group broke into his home. To protect herself, she used two unusual items: a vacuum cleaner and a rolling pin.
Irit explained that since 1993, there have always been rooms in Israel’s homes that served as bomb shelters. However, these rooms usually do not have locks because the doors are heavy and should not be locked for security reasons.
The woman and her daughter hid in this place, not knowing that they would have to find a way to seal the place. “I was trying to figure out what to do. I thought, ‘Are they going to break down our door? How can I be sure it’s locked?’” he recalls.
Desperate, Irit sent messages to people in the community asking how they locked the shelter, and her brother responded with a photo showing two broomsticks used to secure the door. The woman didn’t have a broom, but she remembered the rolling pin and the vacuum cleaner.

She says the situation was hard to imagine, but even as she was putting up the barricade, she heard men coming toward her, screaming.
“We had no choice but to hug each other. My daughter and I hid under the table in the dark. We started saying to each other, ‘I love you.’ My daughter said, ‘I love you, I really do. I appreciate it. Everything you’ve done for me.’ And I told her how much I loved her. We thought we were going to die and they kept trying to open it,” he explained.
The intruders tried to break into the room for about ten minutes. Irit says they tried to break down the door two more times.
