There was a shocking twist in his final scenes on Coronation Street: Todd’s character Stephen was mowed down by Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) as he raced to the Rovers after learning the killer was back in town and Jenny Connor (Sally Ann Matthews) was taken hostage.

But the surprises for fans of the series didn’t end there, as in the final moments it was revealed that his latest victim, Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine), was still alive.

During the episode, residents were left confused after Stephen’s murderous activities were uncovered, but he was nowhere to be seen.

When he tried to board his flight to Bangkok he discovered his passport was missing and had to return to Weatherfield to confront his partner Jenny.

Meanwhile, Jenny had heard noises coming from inside The Rovers Return and took it upon herself to investigate.

Rita Sullivan (Barbara Knox) told Jenny not to go in, saying, “Jenny, this is not your responsibility, this is a job for the police!”

The two ladies were almost blown away when Dylan Wilson stormed out of the pub with his friend.

Elsewhere, Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) had also spotted something in the pub and entered the boarded-up Rovers to investigate.

After speaking to Jenny, who explained she had caught Dylan smashing glasses in the pub, Sarah revealed she had stopped by after seeing someone upstairs.

“You saw me upstairs? “I’ve never been upstairs,” Jenny replied.

“I think we should go!” Sarah exclaimed, realizing they weren’t alone.

Before the duo could escape, Stephen ran down the stairs and hit his niece Sarah over the head with a wine bottle.

“No, you made me do it, it was you!” She breathes, she’ll be fine. That was your fault! “You two were sneaking around,” Stephen called to Jenny.

Meanwhile, a worried Gail texted the Weatherfield group chat, where she received a reply from “Jenny” saying Sarah was at the station with her.

Back at The Rovers, Stephen was seen sending the message from Jenny’s phone to Gail while questioning her about the whereabouts of his passport.

Jenny began to put everything together when she realized that Teddy’s body must have been hidden in the roof box and not in sewing machines as previously thought.

Stephen admitted he committed the crimes out of a “fear of failure” and said it was his last chance to be successful and not “washed up and pathetic”.

Jenny tells Stephen that his passport is in her purse and that he should run away before Audrey finds out who he really is to free himself.

As he confessed his love to Jenny, voices could be heard outside the pub, but Stephen muffled Jenny’s cries for help with his hand.

After hearing the screams, Sean Tully rushed to help and told police he believed Stephen was in the Rovers.

When Sarah woke up, she hit Stephen over the head with a chair, leading to a scuffle in which the serial killer took Jenny hostage.

Then Stephen walked Jenny out of the pub in front of the Platt family gathered on the pavement outside, clutching the broken bottle around her neck.

Meanwhile, at Roy’s Cafe, Carla took a call from Peter Barlow and as the duo counted one to two, Carla ran towards the Rovers while the taxi driver sped to the crime scene.
