IU asks Albares to take a position in the EU that condemns Israel’s attacks and guarantees humanitarian aid

This Saturday, Izquierda Unida sent a letter to acting Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares, calling on Spain to adopt a position within the European Union that condemns Israel’s attacks on the Gaza Strip following the offensive by Hamas, a group that does not mention humanitarian aid and guarantee. In the letter, IU argues that Foreign Affairs must “categorically and immediately condemn” this situation, call for a ceasefire and take all possible measures, as this shows that European countries cannot be “mere witnesses” to it, like Israel in his opinion, he is preparing a ground invasion of the Gaza Strip to “destroy” it. For the formation led by Acting Minister of Consumer Affairs Alberto Garzón, the military response of the Israeli army to the Hamas offensive of last Saturday, together with the interruption of fuel, food and water supplies to the Gaza Strip, constitutes a “collective punishment” on the population “in violation of international law”. “As the country holding the Presidency of the Council of the EU, Spain must adopt a community position that unequivocally condemns the Israeli attacks, is committed to ensuring the arrival of humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip and supports the freedom of the Palestinian people and their struggle against them. “Profession”, has called for the training. In the letter, IU asks for an urgent meeting with Albares and considers it essential to make efforts to evacuate the 120 Spaniards living in the Gaza Strip and to establish humanitarian corridors.
