“Life is short, that’s why I want to laugh every day”: At the age of 60, Marthe Laverdière starts her first one-woman show

Gardener, massage therapist, novelist, speaker, chef, landscaper, columnist… Marthe Laverdière has done it all (or almost). And at 60, she’s adding the title of comedian to that list by launching her first-ever one-woman show.

His timetable may seem varied at first glance. But Marthe Laverdière points out one constant: humor. Because whether she’s welcoming clients in her greenhouse, in her kitchen, or even on her massage therapy table, she can’t help but make everyone who crosses her path laugh.

“I have used humor in all professions. Life is too short, so I want to laugh every day,” she proclaims.

Authentic

Because yes, the gardener is just as cheerful and colorful in interviews as she is when it comes to talking about cucumbers, lilacs, blueberries and other Japanese beetles in her viral videos, which have been posted online at regular intervals since 2016. Observation that many took their time.

“People have been asking me for a long time if I play a character in my videos; At first I found it so offensive! At my age, I don’t have time for acting. I am what I am ; If you like it, even better. Otherwise ? It’s a shame,” says Marthe Laverdière with her typical openness.

Anecdotes and “creaming”

There is therefore no need to go to the now famous Rang de la fourche in Armagh in Chaudière-Appalaches to hear about it in its greenhouses. The Marthe Laverdière tour, which began last month, will crisscross the province next year.

Under the aegis of Mario Jean, the comic will serve personal anecdotes (enriched with “lots of lotion!”, as she specifies) and comic reflections on dozens of scenes. But to this day Marthe Laverdière hesitates to claim the title of comedian.

“I don’t go out much, so I haven’t seen that many comedy shows. But I know I’m not a stand-up; I don’t do one prank after another. I tell people stories as if they were sitting around my kitchen island. And it makes them laugh,” she explains.

The public can now decide for themselves which hat they should wear to Marthe Laverdière.
