The evacuation of Canadians from the West Bank begins on Tuesday

An operation to evacuate Canadians from the West Bank could begin on Tuesday, Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly announced.

In a press conference, the minister said she has reached agreements with the Israeli and Jordanian governments, as well as the Palestinian Authority, to ensure the safe transport of Canadian nationals to Jordan.

“We have an agreement with the Israelis, the Palestinian Authority and the Jordanians to ensure that Canadians can leave the West Bank by bus,” she explains. We will be able to start this operation on Tuesday of this week.”

Ms. Joly also says she is committed to allowing Canadians in Gaza to be evacuated via Egypt.

“We will continue to demand a humanitarian corridor with Gaza,” she says. I also received permission from the Israeli government for the departure of Canadian civilians currently in the Gaza Strip. Gaza is currently one of the most difficult places to live in.”

The Foreign Minister, who is currently in Jordan, also took the opportunity to follow up on her visit to Israel.

“I traveled to Israel for various reasons, but most importantly to understand the human impact that this unprecedented terrorist attack has had on Israel. I had the opportunity to meet families of missing people and missing Canadians.”

“There were bombings in Tel Aviv, my team and I had to seek shelter,” she adds. We see the reality of the Israeli people.”

Ms. Joly also confirmed the number of four Canadians dead and three missing since the start of the conflict.
