Taylor Swifts The Eras Tour Movie Becomes Second Biggest October Opening

Taylor Swift’s ‘The Eras Tour’ Movie Becomes Second-Biggest October Opening Day Ever With $39 Million

Never underestimate Taylor Swift’s fan base because the Swifties are a force to be reckoned with.

The 33-year-old Lover singer released the film from her record-breaking The Eras tour on Thursday, and it’s already the second-largest October opening ever.

The concert film grossed $39 million in 3,855 theaters in North America on its opening day alone, including $2.8 million from special previews on Thursday.

The film’s premiere was originally scheduled for Friday the 13th – an important number in Swift’s world – but was pushed back a day to Thursday after a star-studded premiere in Los Angeles on Wednesday.

The Eras film narrowly missed the record for the best opening day in October, as Joaquin Phoenix’s “Joker” grossed $39.3 million in 2019.

Weekend box office predictions put Swift’s film in the $100 million range, but it’s unlikely to reach $125 million.

The film is shown in major cinemas, which have a higher ticket price, and also benefits from the fact that it is a limited release.

The Eras tour film is only in cinemas until Monday, but will be back in cinemas next weekend from Thursday.

AMC Theaters is treating the film like a real live concert, encouraging audiences to take photos and dance and sing with the Bad Blood singer.

The concert documentary will land on the list of the top ten grossing opening weekends of 2023, likely landing somewhere between fifth and seventh on the list.

Currently, Ant-Man 3 ($106 million), The Little Mermaid ($95 million) and Oppenheimer ($80.5 million) occupy those spots.

The Swifties’ takeover of theaters is a sight for the eyes of cinema operators as they have not seen a single weekend box office grossing more than $100 million in the last two months, following the release of “Barbie.” and Oppenheimer” had experienced more than one.

Swift handpicked the audience for Wednesday’s world premiere at the AMC Theater at The Grove in Los Angeles.

The Lavender Haze singer stopped by each of The Grove’s cinemas to give a short speech before the film began.

“I can’t believe I can do music as a career,” she told the audience.

‘That’s crazy. I always had so much fun. I’ve never had as much fun in my life as I did on the Eras Tour. It is by far the most electrifying experience of my life.”
