CLEVELAND – The 49ers signed two players off the practice squad on Saturday to help them prepare for their Week 6 game against the Cleveland Browns.
Linebacker Curtis Robinson was promoted, a sign that starting linebacker Dre Greenlaw’s availability may be in doubt. The 49ers also promoted cornerback Shemar Jean-Charles for the second time this season.
Greenlaw suffered a hamstring injury during a passing practice session on Thursday and is considered questionable for the game.
On Friday, Shanahan said the team would have a better idea if Greenlaw was available to play. It looks like the 49ers are inclined to play it safe with Greenlaw, who ranks second on the team with 37 tackles behind Fred Warner.
“[He] He just did something, didn’t feel good about it, and now we’re safe and we’ll see how he feels [Saturday]Shanahan said.
The club expects newly acquired defensive end Randy Gregory to be active and make his debut with the 49ers. The team acquired Gregory last week in a trade with the Denver Broncos.
“He fit in well, was able to complete three full practices, learn and adopt our scheme,” Shanahan said. “I think some of the styles he’s used in the past are very similar, so I think he’ll pick it up quickly and I’m looking forward to seeing him here on Sunday.”
