The first question you should NOT ask on a first date is, “Why are you single?” According to Simone, that’s a terrible question, even if your intentions are good

Simone says the problem with this question is that “you’re not necessarily getting the information you’re looking for.” And putting it that way gets to the point [the other person] on the back foot. They put someone in a defensive position.

People can be single for many reasons and life circumstances that they may not want to explain, and if they are single because of a messy breakup, they probably won’t want to repeat that again on the first date with a new person.

Simone suggested that you instead phrase your question as, “What did you like about being single and what do you hope to find in a partner?” She believes this question will help you understand whether you two are on the same page without causing unpleasant tensions.

The next question the dating expert should avoid at all costs is, “How many dates have you been on?” [insert app name here]?’

She said, “Don’t talk about it, no.” If they don’t say any, why? If they say 15, ask yourself, “How many were there this week?”

“Connection begins with shared experience.” Part of that shared experience is both of you being on the app. Instead, ask about the activity, the experience you are sharing.”

Simone also shared her top tips for finding a great man for single women.

She said on The Wendy Williams Show: “Have your must-haves and deal-breakers.” Three must-haves. Three deal breakers. “Not a list of 1,000 things, no one has 1,000 things.”

Her next tip is: “Make yourself available.” Think about the type of man you want. If you’re looking for the type of man who exercises regularly, dress up and go to the gym.

“If you like a man who loves sports, then make yourself cute and buy yourself good tickets to a great sporting event.” Don’t buy the nosebleed seats, buy the good mid-range seats. Why? Because compared to the number of men, you are probably one of the few women there.

“Put yourself in situations where you have an advantage.”

Her third top tip is simply: “Eye contact, smile and enjoy each other’s company.”
