Renowned Iranian film director Dariush Mehrjui and his wife were stabbed to death in their home by an unknown assailant, state media reported on Sunday.

The official IRNA news agency quoted judicial officer Hossein Fazeli as saying Mehrjhi and his wife Vahideh Mohammadifar were found dead with knife wounds in the neck.

Fazeli said the director’s daughter, Mona Mehrjui, found the bodies while visiting her father at the house in a suburb about 30 kilometers west of the capital Tehran on Saturday evening.

The report said authorities are investigating and are not suspecting a motive, although the woman had complained about a knife threat on social media in recent weeks.
