Four teenagers will long remember their nighttime walk that ended with a police chase and their arrest.
The story began around 1 a.m. Sunday when police officers from the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) used radar on Highway 40 East. They would then have intercepted a vehicle traveling at excessive speed, i.e. 140 km/h in a 70 zone.
So they went after him. When they caught up with the car, it crashed into a concrete wall. However, when the police finally arrived, she fled again. The driver lost control of the vehicle again on the ramp to Highway 25 South. SQ agents had to call off the pursuit when the vehicle took the exit toward Beaubien Street because it had left their sector, said Stéphane Tremblay, spokesman for the SQ.
The car, a white Communauto Hyundai Kona, was eventually found abandoned at the intersection of Sherbrooke Street. The four occupants, ages 16 and 17, fled on foot but were quickly located and arrested by SQ officers and Montreal police.
The 17-year-old driver was arrested for fleeing, dangerous driving and obstructing the work of police officers. The three other inmates – two boys and a girl – were arrested for obstructing police work. They were all released with a promise to appear. The driver who has a probationary license should lose all his points due to his violation of the traffic regulations.
According to information from the SQ, alcohol does not play a role in this story.
